One trying to fit a g50 gearbox to a 3.2 out of a 1985 carrera, the clutch kit I have won't fit onto the flywheel, will I have to change the flywheel to suit? Is there a way to tell if I definitely have the wrong flywheel (size, teeth etc?) and lastly I have a 964 starter which also won't fit, again the wrong one?

Welcome to the forum.

What car are you putting the G50 into?  A 964 starter shouldnt fit a G50.....

It's being fitted into a Vw t25 camper, I now know I need a new flywheel so I'll have to find a 911 g50 type starter to, shame as I have an older type starter and the 964 one! More money hey!

Great project - I've always wanted to do that.  There's a PET catalogue in the tech reference section of this forum so you can get the part numbers from there.  I had to getr a new flywheel when I did a G50 conversion on my 911.  It wasnt megga money.......

Have a look on www.stuttgartexchange.com, you might get some parts come up on there.

Good luck with the project!

Yeah, I think it will be a great project, not quite the original B32 but somewhere near. Did you have to get a new starter motor when you converted to the G50? I was presuming I had to but I cannot see an option anywhere? Thanks for the links to, all help accepted!

I seem to recal I got a new starter.  I think there are differences between the 915 and G50 gearbox on the 3.2 series from 84 to 89.  There are also differences between the G50 of 87 and the other years.

One starter you could consider if you have to buy one is a light weight high torque starter like the one offered from Cambridge motorsports.  I beleive its called the edge.  This guy fitted one:  www.myporsche911.co.uk/upb/viewtopic.php?id=29&t_id=6

Thanks, I've seen those advertised, that maybe an option. The new flywheel is arriving on the weekend, I'll look into it then.
