The site has been getting alot of spam lately.  I delete the user accounts and all their posts as soon as I see them, but I have also been working on ways to stop them posting their rubbish in the first place.

I am pleased to announce a few measures that I have been creating to prevent forum spam.

1. URL's in Forum Posts. All new members of the forum will NOT be able to create a post that contains a URL or Website address.  Once a user has made 30 or more  legitimate posts, their URL privaleges will be re-instated and they will be able to include URLS's and website addresses in their posts.  Hopefully this will slow the spammers down a little and I hope genuine new members will understand the reasoning behind my restrictions.

2. URL's in Signature Blocks. All new members of the forum will NOT be able to include URL's in their signature blocks. They can still include plain text.  Once they have made 30 or more forum posts, they will be able to include URL's.

3. URL's on user profile page All new members will NOT be able to include a link to a website in the profile page.  This has been disabled at registration as well as post registration via the user Control Panel.  Again, once the user has made 30 or more forum posts they will be able to include a website address.

4. URL's that are allowed.  There will be some URL's that new users will be able to include in their posts while their post copunt is under 30.  These include:

(4.1) http://www.p101tv.com
(4.2) http://www.stuttgartexchange.com
(4.3) http://www.myporsche911.co.uk

5. Pasting links to other Forum Threads.  While a user post count is below 30, they will still be able to post links between m911 forum threads.

6.Email Domain Restrictions.  There are many known domains that spammers use for registering their email address with forums.  The forum will now compare those addresses to addresses used at registration.  Any match will cause the registration process to be cancelled.

OK, so I have made a few more changes in terms of anti spam measures.  Each time I do I will update the first post of this thread.  I have now stopped URL's from being placed in signatures and in user profiles.

I havent got to 30 posts yet, but I think this is great idea.  I hate spammers so I dont mind not being able to post URL's for a while.  Great work Pete.
