Hi
Can anyone please help? I have had my 1999 911 C4 cab for about a week and put the hood up yesterday morning and the plastic window split. It was about 5 degrees so should have been ok...anyone got a source to buy replacement rear window? Anyway, main issue happened in the afternoon. Stopped for fuel and car would not start. Battery fine, all electrics working ok but would not crank, completely dead. Finally called AA out to recover last night. Tried bump starting but no good. Tried second key, also no joy.. Can anyone please advise. Thanks Mark |

That doesnt sound good. A couple of things you could try.....
....When you turn the ignition on is there a clicking noise? If so it could be the starter motor solenoid.... .... look for the DME relay. These can go and kill the engine. Also take a peak here: www.myporsche911.co.uk/upb/viewtopic.php?id=34&t_id=17 |

Still in garage. Appears to be electrical problem linked to alarm. 4 hours work and still not sorted. There is no click so not solenoid. Fairly sure electrical but lots of wires to check!!! Hope to get sorted soon .....

Well sounds expensive!
The problem was the alarm control module. I now need to get the car to Bournemouth tomorrow on a low loader and get a new unit fitted plus the cost of two new key fobs. Looking at spending £675.00 at the dealer if i'm lucky and they fit it in one hour!! I understand that this can only be done at a Porsche dealership....Yipeee :-( |

Quote: marklinzey at Mar 16, 2011 4:22:29 pm Oh no. That's not a nice way to enjoy your Porsche. Maybe you could consider ditching the Porsche Factory Alarm and getting an aftermarket one. You could get some very good fitted for half that money. I feel for you.... |

FYI took the car to porsche to have alarm control unit fitted to be advised that this was not the fault! Autotechnics had got the diagnosis wrong. Unfortunately alarm unit fitted and keys coded so had to pay!! Problem was an £84 ignition switch. Walked out with a bill for over £1000!!

Sorry to hear about the big sting in the wallet bud, firstly a poor autotechnic diagnosis then how come the dealer only picked it up AFTER fitting the new alarm £££
